Hot dry climates are characterized by very hot dry air and dry ground.  Daytime air temperature may range in between 27 and 49 degree Celsius normally higher than the 31 to 34 degree Celsius skin temperature but at night as much as 22 degree Celsius.  Humidity is continuously moderate to low.  There is little or no cloud cover to reduce the high intensity of direct solar radiation. The clear Sky permits a considerable amount of heat to be re-radiated to outer space at night. The dry air, low humidity and minimum rainfall discourage plant life and the dry ground reflects the strong sunlight, producing an uncomfortable ground glare. Local thermal winds often carry dust and sand. Wind speeds are much higher. Gust of winds and accompanied by storms. Sandstorms are often experienced in these regions.

This climatic condition generally occurs at latitude between 15 degrees to 30 degrees on both the hemispheres. The winter low and high temperatures can be between 4 to 20 degree celcius while the summer low and high temperatures can be between 28 to 40 degree celcius. It rains very little however when it rains, it rains very heavily and very high rainfall is measured in a single day but very little rainfall over long period.

In India the states of  Rajasthan, Gujarat and Central Maharashtra experience Hot and Dry climate.
